Trimble announced that it has acquired privately held XYZ Solutions Inc., of Alpharetta, Ga., in an all-cash transaction. XYZ Solutions provides real-time, interactive 3-D intelligence software to manage the spatial aspects of a construction project. The software transforms data from various sources into actionable information that can be used in the decision making process to reduce rework and improve productivity for engineering and construction professionals. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
For innovations ranging from electronic finger-writing technology to environmentally responsible architecture, 10 Chicago-area organizations were named winners in the fifth annual Chicago Innovation Awards competition, the program’s creators announced in October.
According to statistics compiled by the Gypsum Association, the United States gypsum board industry shipped a total of 8.362 billion square feet of material during the third calendar quarter (July through September) of 2006. The Carolina’s Lathing and Plastering Contractors Association held its 10th annual convention Oct. 26 through 28, at the Kingston Plantation Resort, in N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. The event was well attended, with exhibitors on hand to show their freshest wares. AWCI’s “EIFS-Doing It Right” training was again held during the show, with 16 tradesmen enrolled.

The program is being launched in the building product sector with the carpet industry.
