The National Fire Protection Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs signed a memorandum of understanding to formalize their long relationship and to allow for increased participation by the IAFC in the NFPA code process. The MOU will further goals of both organizations to improve public safety, including the safety of first responders in the built environment.

Among some of the planned activities are increased IAFC representation on the regional fire code development committees; technical committees for the Building Construction and Safety Code, Life Safety Code and Uniform Fire Code projects; and certification advisory committees for fire inspector and plans reviewer.
