The National Fire Protection Association has established a new office in Sacramento. NFPA's Sacramento staff will continue working with state agencies to make state-specific amendments to NFPA's model building and fire codes.

Each time the state adopts a national model code, state agencies are responsible for making amendments that are specific to California. NFPA has agreed to support the state agencies' efforts.

Last July, the California Building Standards Commission selected NFPA 5000, Building Construction and Safety Code and NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code as the bases for the 2004 California Building Code and California Fire Code.
