Mohawk Industries Inc. announced the signing of a definitive agreement to acquire Unilin Holding NV for 2.2 billion Euros or approximately $2.6 billion in cash. Mohawk intends to allow Unilin to operate as an independent company as they have done in the past with ceramic producer Dal-Tile. Mohawk's acquisition of Dal-Tile in 2002 resulted in the expansion of Dal-Tile's customer base, broadening of the product line, improvement of merchandising and enhancement of service levels.
