Ecolite Concrete USA’s lightweight concrete and steel stud
wall panels continue to gain traction within the U.S. Department of Defense as
another significant “Ecolite” building begins to take shape. With speed, cost
efficiency, and sustainability driving the specification for building products,
Ecolite walls are delivering performance, value and scale to meet these
demands. RQ Construction, of Carlsbad,
Calif., one of the nation’s
prominent Department of Defense contractors was awarded the Design Build
facility by the U.S. Navy and has chosen Ecolite as its source for
pre-fabricated walls.
“The Temp Lodge Facility (TLF) was the perfect opportunity
to apply the Ecolite StudCast wall system,” said George Rogers, CEO of RQ
Construction. “Our customer needed a building that cost less so that they could
get first class furniture and fixtures, and they needed it fast. Ecolite gave
us both and is helping us design it to a LEED Silver level. A lodge like this
would normally take 12 to 14 months to build and we plan to do it in 8 months.”
Because Ecolite wall panels are engineered to the designer’s
specifications and fabricated in a controlled manufacturing facility, nearly
all of the TLF walls have been completed prior the start of installation. This
flagship hotel will utilize more than 600 Ecolite wall panels, totaling more
than 64,000 square feet, and is designed to be replicated on military bases
across the United States. The TLF will
provide housing and accommodations to families and friends of those serving in
the military. By deploying Ecolite wall panels, RQ Construction estimates a
reduction in their total build time by 35 percent compared to using traditional
building methods. However, the hotel will look and feel much like newer
commercial hotels, except with exceptional strength and safety qualities.
