USG Corporation’s plant in Walworth, Wis., received a Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award in recognition of workplace safety and health excellence. The Wisconsin Council of Safety and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development presented the award at the 68th annual Wisconsin Safety and Health Conference on April 27 in Wisconsin Dells.

USG Interiors was one of 15 businesses to win the award, and it was the third state safety award for the Walworth plant. The awards program, in its 16th year, honors excellence in safety performance, program implementation, training, and employee and management involvement. An independent panel of judges, including leaders in business, health and safety, selected winners based on injury incidence rates and health and safety procedures, policies and accomplishments.

As a result of the focus on safety, the Walworth plant recently celebrated more than two million safe work hours without a lost-time injury. Additionally, the plant recently completed more than 3,015 days, or eight years, without a lost-time injury.

Safety is a core value and our first priority at USG Interiors,” said Scott Curry, Walworth plant manager. “Our motto is no job is so important that we cannot take the time to do it safely. We have developed and adhere to safety guidelines that exceed industry standards and regulations. This award recognizes the effort and teamwork of the Walworth employees, and we are proud of this great achievement.”

Founded in 1902, USG holds safety as its number-one core value. The company was one of the founding members of the National Safety Council. In 2008, the Walworth plant achieved “Star” status as part of the Voluntary Protection Program offered by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety & Health Administration.
