In 2012, Louisiana-Pacific and John S. Conboy, owner of Strait-Flex International Inc., began collaborating on a new seam tape that would reduce labor and produce a stronger flatter joint for L-P’s CarraraFinishes built on its SmartSide System.

Conboy designed and built a machine, which is called Foundation Tape II. This new product consists of a 2-inch wide composite PVC base, laminated to a 4 inch wide VCM vinyl coated polyester mesh tape. The new dual-tape installs in half the time as compared to using two separate tapes prior to this development.

Foundation Tape II produces a flat joint with unsurpassed strength and flexibility.
