Pacific Coast Building Products, a family-owned company in building materials has announced its 60 year anniversary. When Fred Anderson launched Anderson lumber in 1953, he had no way of knowing his fledgling lumber yard would grow to become a leader in the building materials industry. Anderson founded the company on three principle values: quality products, exceptional service and a focus on relationships. A company culture that fosters honesty, integrity and respect has contributed to the success of Anderson Lumber and subsequently, Pacific Coast Building Products.
As Anderson Lumber became a favorite of homebuilders and contractors in the Sacramento area, Anderson began acquiring related businesses to better serve his customers. This created a precedent of steady, diversified growth that has been the hallmark of PCBP. Today, this manufacturing, distributing and contracting company is a leading supplier of quality products and services to the construction industry worldwide.
In 1970, Dave Lucchetti joined Anderson Lumber to begin learning all aspects of the company. Working side by side with his father-in-law, Lucchetti was able to experience firsthand Anderson’s ideas of how to run the business and his interaction with customers. Lucchetti was named successor to Anderson and elected president and chief operating officer.
Lucchetti has continued to be the steady hand guiding the company through periods of economic downturn and expansive growth. Headquartered in Rancho Cordova, Calif., PCBP is a holding company for eight wholly-owned subsidiaries, overseeing 72 facilities in nine western states and Canada, with more than 2,500 employees.
Community involvement is deeply ingrained in this company and employee philanthropic activities are highly encouraged. PCBP’s Adopt-A-Family program was established in response to Lucchetti’s request for a a family-owned company company-wide community outreach. Additionally, the Pacific Coast Building Products Foundation was established in 1999. The Fund focuses on charities in the communities that the company serves, with a special emphasis on children in need.
Reflecting on the past 60 years, Dave Lucchetti smiles as he recalls the origins of the family-owned company as a single lumber yard with an unwritten business plan of “a commitment to efficiency, service and a quick response to customer needs.” Despite the ebb and flow of the economy, Lucchetti remains optimistic about the future. “There are many great reasons to be excited about the future of PCBP and the building industry as a whole. We are looking forward to our next 60 years.”
