InterSpec Inc. announced that it has been selected by JPRA Architects as the lead specification consultant for the Fashion Outlets of Philadelphia at Market East (formerly The Gallery).
This major project is a complete renovation of this downtown Philadelphia four-level mixed-use urban center. It is very complex due not only to its sheer mass and size – approximately 621,000 square feet of retail GLA over three city blocks – but its location above a busy commuter station required significant planning to keep the station active while work is being done. Its position on a zero lot line in a very urban setting presents additional challenges. Extensive exterior and interior renovations are involved.
"The most remarkable feature we specified was the unique 65-foot structural transparent glass atrium to maximize visibility and light while minimizing metal components," said Chris Grimm, an InterSpec Specifier. "The owner had decided to renovate rather than tear down this downtown Philadelphia mall because it is larger than most downtown malls, and close to good transportation options. It needed a major face-lift to increase natural light and curb appeal."
With a wide breadth of knowledge and over 35 years of experience, JPRA Architects commands the retail design segment with their array of planning, architecture, interior design, lease administration and environmental graphic services.
"We have used InterSpec's specification writing services on many projects," said Louis Margitan, Senior Associate. "Their team is very collaborative and we find the e-SPECS software package very helpful. It is an especially valuable resource to ensure accuracy and that continually updated specs are used."
"We have worked with the JPRA Architects team for many years now," says George Libby, Director of InterSpec's Specification Services. "As an architectural specifier, developing concise and accurate project specifications on these large scale retail venues, although challenging, is also fascinating and rewarding. Our team at InterSpec takes great pride in JPRA's continued reliance on our services for these very challenging, high-visibility projects."
InterSpec continues to provide additional specification services for this large project on an as-need basis throughout the construction phase.
