State Energy Conservation Office announced in January that registration had begun for workshops focused on the updates to the State's building energy code.

Effective Sept. 1, 2016, the statewide energy code for single family residential construction will be the 2015 International Residential Code, Chapter 11, and effective Nov. 1, 2016, the statewide commercial energy code will be the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code.

Apple Energy Group, the training provider, has conducted these 3-hour workshops in over 23 cities since February. Upcoming workshops will be held in Amarillo on June 23, 2016 and in El Paso on the July 14, 2016. Other upcoming cities and more information for registration are available at TXEnergyCodeTraining.org.

The statewide workshops are offered free of charge and provide a thorough review of the changes to the Texas Building Energy Code. Each attendant will receive a copy of the 2015 IECC codebook as well as reference materials highlighting the building energy code changes. In addition, continuing education credits will be offered for each workshop, including credits approved by the International Code Council, American Institute of Architects, the Building Performance Institute, the American Society of Home Inspectors and the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.
