Simpson Strong-Tie announced it is making a $10,000 donation to assist in emergency response and relief efforts as flash floods continue to rage through West Virginia.
The three hardest-hit counties, Kanawha, Greenbrier and Nicholas, have been declared a federal disaster, and a state of emergency has been declared in 44 of the 55 counties in the state. Numerous homes and businesses have been destroyed or severely damaged, forcing several thousand residents to evacuate. At least 24 people have died, and residents are being warned that more flash flooding is expected.
The donation from Simpson Strong-Tie will be given to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and will help in executing emergency response, and providing food, shelter and other assistance to those affected.
“Our thoughts go out to everyone caught in these sudden and fast-moving floods,” said Simpson Strong-Tie CEO Karen Colonias. "We hope that recovery and relief efforts will help residents cope with this devastating ordeal.”
