Firestone Building Products announced its CoreGard Technology received the Bridgestone Americas Award and Bridgestone Group Award, the top internal recognition programs from Bridgestone Americas and Bridgestone Corp., respectfully.
“Innovation is at the core of our operations and CoreGard Technology is just one example of how we are working to develop new solutions to help our customers,” said Tim Dunn, president, Firestone Building Products. “CoreGard Technology, in its current use in a roofing underlayment, is a cost-effective and environmentally-sustainable innovation that offers communities opportunities to provide safer environments.”
Engineered as part of Firestone’s focus on developing innovative solutions that offer superior building performance, CoreGard Technology was introduced to the market in early 2015 in the company’s new CLAD-GARD SA-FR roofing material for metal roofing assemblies. CoreGard Technology is fire retardant technology that provides flame resistance through the use of a non-chemical-based material that develops a protective crust or char in the presence of fire to inhibit the spread of flame.
CoreGard Technology does not extinguish flame, but protects the building and contents when the primary roof cover fails due to fire or extreme heat exposure. Described by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) as being “effective against severe fire exposure,” CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology provides a UL Class A rated metal roofing system with one layer, as opposed to multiple layers of competitive products. CLAD-GARD SA-FR with CoreGard Technology reduces the amount of materials needed for the roofing system, thereby reducing installation time and lowering costs. The technology may also have use in other products and applications.
As part of Bridgestone Americas, Firestone is committed to being a good corporate citizen nationally, regionally and especially in the communities where it has manufacturing facilities, sales facilities and offices, which includes ensuring a healthy environment for current and future generations. CoreGard Technology was developed with consideration for its environmental footprint, meaning its non-hazardous, fire-retardant additive design ensures it will not only protect building occupants but the environment as well.
