Amy Williams, AIA, LEED AP, former managing principal and vice president of HDR’s Los Angeles architecture studio, has assumed the managing principal role in the Minneapolis studio.
Originally from Iowa and a graduate of Iowa State University, Williams is a licensed architect in Washington, Nevada, Utah, Minnesota and Michigan.
She has led design practices for award-winning global architecture firms for the past eight years, and she has 20 years of experience on projects in the health, education, science and technology, civic and corporate workplace sectors.
“Amy has an unwavering passion for design excellence, and she is dedicated to ensuring that our clients’ goals are accomplished in the delivery of our projects,” said Todd Tierney, AIA, West region director of operations. “Under Amy’s leadership, the Minneapolis studio will continue to thrive and contribute to enhancing the local community.”
Williams believes that diversification is the key to the success of award-winning practices. She prides herself on mentoring her staff through teamwork, and she considers it the greatest accomplishment of her career when those she has guided and helped become her peers. She is passionate about the advancement of women and diversity in the profession, and she is looking forward to dedicating this next phase of her career to the growing artistic community of Minneapolis and the greater Midwest.
In addition to her managing principal position, Williams is also HDR’s associate architecture regional director in the West. In this role, she works closely with the architecture regional director to implement a consistent strategic vision across eight offices, including Minneapolis.
“I am excited to take on an expanded role within HDR, while maintaining my passion for design and my commitment to building a strong local practice,” said Williams. “I am inspired to be in Minneapolis. The vibrancy of the city, the talent of the office and so many architectural opportunities await.”
