Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters Local 167 Council Representative Richard Rivera was voted to serve as the labor committee chair of the Democratic Latino Caucus (DLC). After serving the Caucus for several years, DLC chair David Rodriguez tapped Rivera for the position with the organization.
The DLC is dedicated to increasing the political participation of Pennsylvania’s Latino and Hispanic communities. According to the DLC’s website, the organization’s goal is to ensure the registration of voters, inform the community on important social issues and educate people on the caucus’s role for supporting/advocating for initiatives and municipal committees. Their overarching objective aims to increase Hispanic participation, engagement and opportunities for candidates to run for office.
“I am extremely grateful to be appointed to the Democratic Latino Caucus and feel this is a great opportunity to increase the diversity of our membership and help push important legislation for middle-class workers,” said Local 167 council representative Richard Rivera. “I plan on continuing to engage the Hispanic communities in and around the region, while further reiterating the importance of the NRCC’s role in advancing the advocacy of the working middle-class.”
Rivera and the DLC meet three times a year in Harrisburg, Penn. where they will strategize on how to engage Hispanic communities, network and speak with key political players in the region to help influence political change.
