A positive home-building experience is what drives Copper Homes Ltd., a developer and builder in the Denver area. When it was time for company owners Andrew and Kaly Batson to build their home in Broomfield, Colo., unique touches and distinct architectural details made it positively theirs.
Keith Knaus, project manager with Copper Homes, constructed the Batson’s 12,000-square-foot home last year. The home has a curved exterior wall in the basement, main floor and second floor, as well as a curved staircase with a turret at the top. This is when Knaus was first introduced to Quick Qurve Plate; a framer he partnered with recommended using the product for all the curves in the Batson house.
"That was my first experience using the product, and I really loved how well it worked and went together," Knaus says.
In 2021, the Batsons wanted to add a pool to the property, and a curved slide got Knaus thinking about how to build the base and frame. "When I saw the plans for the pool slide, I knew I wanted to use the product again,” he explains.
For the pool slide, Knaus installed 12 boxes of 2- x 6-inch treated the product and three boxes of 2- x 6-inch untreated Quick Qurve Plate at the top and bottom of the slide wall.
The product is an easy-to-use CDX plywood framing product for curved framing applications, such as curved walls, ceilings, soffits and alcoves. This product is ideal for nearly any architectural feature you can dream up—including pool slides. It provides a solid framework giving every project smooth and easy-to-finish curves. Wall coverings and moldings can be fastened directly to the product, so no new installation techniques are needed for contractors who typically work with wood framing.
Knaus adds: “I’ve done other curved walls with plywood, which creates a lot of waste. This is why I will always use and recommend this product for curved applications.”
The crew had their materials fast, something that impressed the team. Despite material shortages and shipping delays that are plaguing the construction industry, Quick Qurve still made it to their doorstep.
