BACnet International is pleased to announce Michael Osborne as the new technical advisor for BACnet Testing Laboratories. BACnet International is an industry association that facilitates the successful use of the BACnet protocol in building automation and control systems through interoperability testing, educational programs and promotional activities. The BTL is responsible for the technical aspects of BACnet International’s testing and listing activities, the central goal of which is to improve BACnet interoperability between building automation products.
As technical advisor, Osborne will provide technical input on project and process management for testing oversight activities, including recognition of test organizations, demonstration of test results equivalency among test organizations and verification of testing efficacy. Responsibilities also include review of test results, product implementation guidance, support of recognized test organizations, participation in the BTL Working Group, test development, test process documentation and test automation.
“Mike has been a longtime, vital contributor to the BACnet community through his work on product testing and the BACnet standard,” stated Andy McMillan, BACnet International president and managing director. “We are very happy to have him le his expertise to BTL in advancing the global testing of BACnet products.”
Osborne has 35 years of experience in industrial and building automation engineering. For most of his time in the building automation industry, he has also been involved in the BACnet community, where he developed tests for the ASHRAE 135.1 Testing Standard and wrote proposals for the ASHRAE SSPC 135 Standard. From 2012 to 2021, Osborne was the secretary, vice-chair and, finally, chair of the ASHRAE SSPC 135 Committee. Most recently, Osborne was manager of firmware for Reliable Controls in Victoria, British Columbia.
