The Department of Labor issued a blog post that highlights five ways construction industry employers can create safer and better workplaces for all workers, especially women. They include providing properly fitting personal protective equipment, guaranteeing safe and sanitary bathrooms, ensuring protections for pregnant and post-partum workers, preventing gender-based violence and harassment, and promoting mental health.
The blog post also explains that more than 390,000 women work in construction and extraction occupations, an 11 percent increase since 2017, but that despite this, gender and racial discrimination remain widespread and many women still face challenges navigating these male-dominated occupations, including threats to their safety.
