A concrete wall collapsed on two workers at a construction site in Long Island, New York, on July 1, according to News 12 Long Island.
The workers were doing demolition on the site when the wall collapsed.
One worker had a heart attack and died on the way to the hospital, while the other worker only had minor injuries.
A recent Department of Labor blog post said that employers can create a safer workplace through properly fitting personal protective equipment.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 1,069 construction worker deaths on job sites in 2022, including 395 related to falls, which are one of the construction industry’s biggest safety hazards.
OSHA said last fall that its fall protection standard for the construction industry has been its most frequently cited standard for 13 straight years, with 7,271 violations in the 2023 fiscal year.
