A trooper from the Michigan State Police recently rescued a construction worker who was stuck under 700 pounds of drywall while working alone on a job site in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, reported George Hunter of The Detroit News.

“The man was attempting to transport large drywall sheets when they unexpectedly fell, trapping him underneath,” the Michigan State Police said. “He managed to call for help, and Trooper Ferraro, who was inside the post at the time, faintly heard the man’s cries for help and immediately rushed outside.”

Ferraro was able to lift the drywall sheets up enough so that the worker could escape.

“Thankfully, due to Trooper Ferraro’s response, the man did not suffer any major injuries,” officials said. “The man expressed sincere gratitude for Trooper Ferraro’s efforts.”

“This incident could have had a much more serious outcome,” Ferraro said. “I’m just glad I was nearby to help.”

To avoid this happening again, one solution is the RockSteady Clip, a product that prevents accidents by protecting job site visitors and contractors from the potential harm of falling drywall. It does this by securing sheets of drywall that are leaned against a wall into a stabilized stack. After installation, the RockSteady Clip offers around-the-clock protection for workers and visitors from the hazard of incidental or accidental stack tip-over.
