Simpson Strong-Tie introduced the SUBE bridging connector for cold-formed steel. The wall-stud bridging connector is designed to connect cold-rolled channel at the end of a wall or single-stud jamb condition, or at the ends of panel walls, curtain walls or load-bearing conditions.
The American Iron and Steel Institute has published a new research report, “RP23-02: Influence of Support Attachment Pattern on the Out-of-Plane Buckling Capacity of Steel Deck.” RP23-02 is available for free download in the AISI Design Resources section at www.buildusingsteel.org.
A research project progressing from the American Iron and Steel Institute’s Small Project/Fellowship Program has received significant funding through the National Science Foundation to advance performance-based fire design for cold-formed steel structures.
The American Iron and Steel Institute has published a new research report, “RP23-01: Analytical Equations for Critical Local Buckling Stress of Lipped Channels.” The report provides analytical equations for calculating the critical load-buckling stress of lipped channels with or without punchouts under compression and bending.
The Steel Framing Industry Association has launched the Industry Project Awards, an annual competition recognizing excellence in the use of SFIA-certified cold-formed steel products. Architects, engineers, manufacturers, distributors, contractors and others can enter projects in the 2023 competition, so long as the projects feature SFIA-certified CFS products and the entrants themselves are SFIA members.
