Gary Prinz, Ph.D., P.E., professor and director of the Grady E. Harvell Civil Engineering Research and Education Center at the University of Arkansas, was recently selected as the recipient of the 2024 Robert J. Dexter Memorial Award Lecture by the Steel Bridge Task Force of the American Iron and Steel Institute and presented his research — which is focused on fracture, fatigue and the service life of steel bridge structures — at a task force meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Steel Bridge Task Force, which is comprised of the American Iron and Steel Institute, the National Steel Bridge Alliance, and the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials Steel and Metals Technical Committee, has named David Stoddard, senior steel applications engineer at SSAB Americas, as the recipient of the 2024 Alexander D. Wilson Memorial Award.

The American Iron and Steel Institute has updated AISI S310 (North American Standard for the Design of Profiled Steel Diaphragm Panels). The standard, first published in 2013, provides design provisions for diaphragms consisting of profiled steel panels, which include fluted profiles and cellular panel profiles.
The American Iron and Steel Institute has published AISI D102-23, “Illustrative Examples for Provisions in AISI S100-16 (2020) w/S3-22.” The document provides a set of 22 design examples that illustrate updated provisions included in AISI S100-16(2020) w/S3-22, North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, 2016 Edition (Reaffirmed 2020) with Supplement Three, 2022 Edition.
