Ware Malcomb announced Feb. 13 that it has appointed four senior team members to a newly created leadership role called “practice leader” to further diversify business and support dedicated market-specific capabilities across the Americas: Luciana Arim for science and technology, Kate Lyle for industrial cold and food, Anthony Simon for retail and Charles Swanson for multifamily.
“Elevating practice leaders represents a natural evolution of our overall leadership structure that strengthens our internal teams and further diversifies our business in these disciplines in all Ware Malcomb offices,” said Matt Brady, executive vice president. “Our practice leaders help our offices provide streamlined delivery of services and firm-wide resources for these types of projects.”
Arim, who is practice leader and director of science and technology and is based in Pleasanton, California, is responsible for Ware Malcomb’s growing S&T practice. The firm is ranked No. 23 among A/E firms for this building type. Ware Malcomb has decades of science and technology experience and has designed a wide array of projects, including science, pharma and technology, from R&D to over one-million-square-foot manufacturing facilities. Its leaders have authored numerous industry articles on the unique considerations for designing spaces for science and technology. In addition, the firm recently completed an award-winning redevelopment project for Precision Labs in Germantown, Maryland.
Lyle, who is practice leader and director of industrial cold and food and is based in Irvine, California, is an established thought leader for this highly innovative building sector. Ware Malcomb is an industry leader in cold buildings, a unique and highly specialized sector that includes cold storage, food processing and production facilities, cold laboratories, and cold medical and pharmaceutical facilities. Firm leaders authored an e-book, in conjunction with NAIOP, discussing best practices in cold storage facility development. Ware Malcomb has ranked as the No. 1 industrial sector A/E firm by Building Design & Construction for four straight years.
Simon, who is practice leader and director of retail and is based in New York City, oversees Ware Malcomb’s extensive and diverse retail sector practice. Ware Malcomb’s retail portfolio includes projects for some of the most prominent national retail brands, as well as for boutique retail developments and brands’ parent corporate headquarters. Ware Malcomb’s retail expertise includes master planning, architecture, civil engineering, interior design, retail strategy and branding for new developments, as well as renovation of existing facilities and tenant improvements. The firm was recently ranked No. 8 for retail interior designers in Interior Design’s listing of Top 100 Giants of Interior Design and No. 27 among A/E firms overall for retail architecture and engineering by Building Design & Construction.
Swanson, who is practice leader and director of multifamily and is based in the Chicagoland area, leads this growing practice category for the firm. Ware Malcomb currently has 3,200 units under development and construction across the United States and Canada. These projects include mall redevelopments, greenfield sites, student housing, high-rise conversions and senior living. Ware Malcomb provides high-quality and innovative planning and design services for multifamily, mixed-use and residential developments across the Americas. The company’s vast resources coupled with local knowledge and efficient project delivery methods enable it to help its clients develop and construct high-quality living environments that maximize long-term real estate value.
“These leaders have distinguished themselves as experts in their fields and firmwide leaders in their discipline,” said Peter Priebe, director of special practices. “We look forward to their contributions to company-wide business development and thought leadership for each practice.”
