What the New Administration Means for the SPF Industry

Tom Harris, owner of Tom Harris PUR Consulting, discusses how the SPF industry may be impacted by new leadership. He highlights cautious optimism about a more focused leadership approach while addressing key industry concerns: labor, tariffs and taxes, and energy policy, emphasizing the need for continued federal support for energy conservation programs.

So, how does Harris see the new leadership affecting the SPF industry?

“Everyone I’ve spoken to are cautiously optimistic. I think, and so do a number of other people, this is a different Donald,” Harris said. “There seems to be more focus on getting the organization right and less on grabbing the spotlight himself. Someone said, “this is his second term – he knows what to expect and how to get things done.”

What areas of concern does the SPF industry have?

Three areas he said:

  • Labor
  • Tariffs and taxes
  • Energy policy

“I see the new leadership as production side focused. Our incentive programs around energy conservation on the demand side are working, but need to be supported on a federal level,” Harris said. “There’s lots of cities and counties with local energy consumption reduction programs including rebates and tax credits and the federal Inflation Reduction Act included rebates and credits, but will the new government continue or even expand the programs or will they be cancelled. Perhaps Musk can lend a voice to the value of energy conservation as a stimulus for national economic growth.”
