The Clark County
Building department hired
Hughes & Associates to investigate the cause and resultant damage of the
fire that occurred on January 25 on the upper floor of the Monte Carlo
Hotel/Casino.
The Steel Framing Alliance
announced that Mark Nowak will serve as the association’s acting president
while its Board of Directors continues a formal search for a permanent
replacement.
The
first-ever Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute “Award for Innovative Design,”
recognizing pioneering use of cold-formed steel in structural design, was
presented to “Research Wind Tunnel for
Freightliner Trucks,” a Salem, Ore. vehicle development project
commissioned by Freightliner Corporation, a large truck manufacturer.
On Center Software Inc. and Armstrong World Industries
announced that On Center’s Quick Bid construction estimating application now
incorporates the ceiling manufacturer’s products, as well as component lists
for more than 125 Armstrong ceiling system assemblies.
CSI will
introduce GreenFormat at the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild
Conference and Expo, Nov. 18-20 in Boston. Demonstrations of the format will be
conducted throughout the event.
Ohio general contractor Brian Burgett recently told members
of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and
Infrastructure to recommend the economic stimulus activities that would have an
immediate positive impact on economic activity.
Congress should consider providing further “sorely needed”
economic stimulus to encourage homeownership and limit foreclosures in order to
pull the U.S. economy out of
recession, NAHB Chief Economist David Seiders said at the association’s Fall
Construction Forecast Conference in Washington,
D.C. on Oct. 22.
