EIFS has been approved for inclusion in the 2009 International
Building Code and International Residential Code, EIMA announced. The final
adoption occurred in mid-September at the 2008 International Code Council’s
Annual Conference & Final Action Hearings in Minneapolis.
Following a study ordered by the Clark County
Development Services’ Building Division, the Monte Carlo Casino, and Resort in Las Vegas was instructed
to work with a Nevada-registered fire protection engineer to determine how to
address parts of the building's façade that were treated with a non-fireproofed
lamina.
Topcon Positioning Systems has announced two appointments to its Telematics Business Unit. Richard Savage has been named western region sales manager, telematics and Ron Ludchak named eastern region sales manager,
“Nonresidential
construction spending continued growing in July, despite the weak economy and
housing slump,” Ken Simonson, chief economist for The Associated General
Contractors of America, said in early September following the release of
construction spending data from the Census Bureau. He added that Congress must
move fast to avert layoffs in power and highway construction.

recently announced the results of a study, developed with New York-based Turner
Construction, that shows significant scheduling and financial benefits of using

Topcon Corporation of Tokyo has announced the
acquisition of U.S.-based Voxis Inc. The acquisition of Voxis of Point Richmond, Calif.
culminates a development relationship with Topcon of more than two years, which
resulted in the recent announcement of the company’s GLS-1000 laser scanner.
The Western Wall and
Ceiling Contractors’ Association announced it will be opening a new office in Phoenix. Albert Carrillo
has been named the regional manager for the new location. His duties will
include labor relations with all the WWCCA conferences and providing technical
assistance for the Arizona
WWCCA contractors and architectural programs for the wall and ceiling industry.
